The final day of the 20th premier league season was real advert for the English game, with twist and turns to death, it was without doubt the best end to season since its formation in 1992. City went into the day needing a win over a QPR side that had lost its last six away games, easy task for city? City were put under pressure when news filtered in that Rooney had given the lead to United at the Stadium of light and city were behind in the title race. However some poor goalkeeping from Zabaleta’s close effort by Paddy Kenny meant the party could start again at the Etihad. City went into the break in the lead, the title was surely heading to the blue half of Manchester.

Qpr came out into the second half with all guns blazing and the on form, Cisse capitalised on a poor back header from Lescott to fire home am equaliser for the R’s. Joey Barton then jeopardised his sides chances of getting a result when he was dismissed for lashing out on Tevez. He then made himself look more foolish by trying to kick out on Aguero and Kompany. City, of course discounted a QPR goal and they were made to pay as Jaime Mackie headed in Armand Traore’s cross to make it 2-1 and the Londoners were in dream land. The pressure then kicked inside the Etihad with a hint of tears or two across the Etihad. Mancini then looked to the unreliable Italian to do the business as he brought him on with 15 minutes to go. And all seemed lost when paddy Kenny redeemed himself with a cracking save from close range header. However, city were not going to go down without fight and they were given a fighting chance when Dzeko headed in an equaliser. Then the twist came, City fans held their breath as news filtered in Manchester united had got a result at Sunderland, the pressure was at optimum levels. But, City played some impressive football and they eventually got their reward when the ball fell to Ageuro who fired in a beauty to make 3-2 to city ,setting off mad scenes in the Etihad. The celebrations were temporally put on hold until the referee put his whistle to mouth to seal a 1st premier league title for City.

The game capped off what had been a strange season for both Manchester clubs, with the power finally shifting to the Blue side of Manchester, who sealed their first title in 44 years. The two Manchester derby wins seemed all the more sweeter when Aguero found the net. The 21st season will have a difficult task of outdoing the 20th. For now the premier league packs away till August. But we still have the Euro’s and Olympics to look forward to throughout the summer.
