The under 17 championship final has dawned upon us, in about one hour and a half the youngsters of Germany and Netherlands will step out on to the field at the stozice stadium in ljubljana. The final is a repeat of the last years final, a enthralling game in which Netherlands won 5-2. However, Germany have been without doubt, the best team at the tournament. And their record shows it four wins, 6 goals and no goals conceded. It goes by saying thy easily defeated a France side that had a faultless qualifying campaign, 3-0. Their last fixture against Poland wasn’t the most convincing performance. But they did manage to brush past them with no real concern, Goretzka’s header being enough to separate the sides.

Netherlands, on the other hand have been far from convincing, they started the tournament well defeating the hosts Slovenia 3-1. But in their final two group games, they were pretty poor, drawing 0-0 in both. They lacked imagination in their final group game against Poland. But they knew they were through with draw so they kept conservative in the game. They also did this in their semi final against Georgia, eventually breaking the deadlock with minutes to spare through Hendrix. They did eventually win the game 2-0, with Haye rolling in a second late in stoppage time. The game could have been more easily won, as Georgia had player sent off in the first half. But, Netherlands made hard work of it. However, the youngsters won’t complain at another under 17 championship final and possible trophy at the end.

Germany will most probably gain their revenge in the final, the young Germans have been more adventurous in their games compared to their Dutch counterparts. However, It is all about performing on the day the late victory against Georgia in the semi finals might give Netherlands the confidence they need going into the final
